Life-like Paintings

Lesley Harison

            Lesley Harrison is a gifted artist who spent years perfecting her style of painting very life like animals.  The amount of detail that goes into her work is very impressive and really can make you wonder whether the picture is a painting or a photograph at first glance.   

            While browsing through drawings this drawing stood out to me and at first i thought it was a photo rather than a drawing.  After i read some information and got a closer look at the picture you can see the individual small strokes that make up the painting.   She has many other paintings that are also quite life-like and impressive.

Week 3

More Leonid Afremov

Leonid Afremov

            Leonid began his paintings with oil and strove to perfect his techniques over years of hard work.  However, it is said that his talents did not reach their full heights till he moved to Israel where "the scorching southern sun filled with colors and brightness made Leonid's painting positive and joyous."

            Leonid's art tends to be very unique in the way that he paints using a palette-knife rather than the typical brushes most artists tend to use.  Using this instrument to paint, instead of scraping paint off a canvas, gives an amazing feel to his paintings that is hard to capture using other media devices

            I actually chose this painting for a couple reasons.  While browsing different artworks this one once again stuck out and as soon as i opened it i realized once again it was a piece by Leonid Afremov.  I think he may be becoming my favorite artist if i had to choose one.  The style is something that i believe really catches a persons eye and the way he can portray detail using abstract strokes is really amazing.

Week 2

3-D Cliff Drawing

            This piece is drawn on flat ground but tricks your mind into perceiving it as a 3-D structure.  I was unable to find the artist who drew this piece but nonetheless it is a very impressive work of art and makes for great pictures.

            I chose this particular drawing because it literally stuck out compared to the others i was looking at.  I would love to learn how to do something like this (in due time) and so it really intrigues me because i wouldn't even know where to begin drawing a piece like this. Amazing
